North Dakota Man Indicted for Interstate Transportation of a Stolen Vehicle and Larceny

United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Bismarck, North Dakota, man has been indicted by a federal grand jury for Interstate Transportation of Stolen Vehicle and Larceny.

Tyrell Running Bear, age 18, was indicted by a federal grand jury on December 14, 2011. He appeared before United States Magistrate Judge Mark A. Moreno on January 4, 2012, and pled not guilty to the indictment. The maximum penalty upon conviction is 10 years in custody, a $250,000 fine, or both. The charges relate to an allegation that the defendant stole a vehicle in Bismarck, North Dakota, and drove it to Eagle Butte. The charges are merely accusations, and Running Bear is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

The investigation is being conducted by the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Division. Assistant United States Attorney Mikal Hanson is prosecuting the case. Running Bear was remanded to the custody of the United States Marshal. A trial date has not yet been set.
